Im really glad that I was able to set goals this past weekend. And I added something extra that I think will be incredibly helpful to me to stay accountable throughout the year in reaching those goals. And Im going to share this new strategy with you.
Many times in the past, I went through the exercise of goal setting and felt good about doing the exercise, but then didn’t revisit the actual goals for quite a while. And what happens is that we remain focused on the most important goals, which for me was often financial goals, but other areas, like relationship goals, fitness goals, spiritual goals, book goals and other goals, can be easily forgotten.
What did I do?
After I set my goals, I wrote down the top3 action items for each category on separate post-it notes. Then, I added the post-its to the inside cover of my personal journal. I write in my personal journal at least once a week (usually on Fridays.) So, every time I write in my personal journal, I can see the 3 things on each category of goals that Im working on. Its a constant reminder throughout the year of what Im working on.
For fitness goals I would have work out a minimum of 5 times per week. Relationship goals would be something like have a date night 2X per week with my wife (I’m single, so with a girlfriend) etc… Financial is to make $5,000 per week etc… So that every time I write in my journal I’m reminded to stay on track with how I want the rest of this year to go.
Its a constant reminder of how I want my life to be. Having goals isn’t enough. Ive got to keep taking the action necessary to make the goals become a reality. Day by day. Week by week. And then the momentum builds and its amazing what we can accomplish.
Keep Going.
